Song #21 If We Confess (1 John 1:9-10)

Song #21: If We Confess  1 John 1

This is the 5th song on “Words of Life” which you can hear on my website: wesmichaelgorospe.c m

Lyrics:

If we confess our sin,

He is faithful and just to forgive us our sin,

And to cleanse us from all unrighteousness.

If we say we have not sinned, we make Him a liar,

And His word has no place in our Lives

The subject of sin, and the confession of it can make many people very uncomfortable…that’s good.

Let me try to define what sin is and is not;  most think of sin(s) as a list of things that we’ve done wrong: I cuss, I stole, I killed, I…I…

The lists that we all compile are indeed transgressions…committed repeatedly by us who seem to have little self control sometimes.

But, the true definition of sin is “missing the mark.”

Picture an archer who aims at his target, but his arrow misses the target, he “missed the mark.”

God had a perfect plan, a perfect target for all of mankind in the beginning. He planned for us to live with Him forever, in a perfect union and a perfect place. But, man(Adam and Eve) missed the mark…went off script, when they disobeyed God’s simple command…thus sin entered the world, and enters into every one of us at birth…we are born under a curse…BUT,

God provided a way out of the curse when Jesus died and paid the price to reverse the curse, and made a way for us to get back on target.

So, confessing our sin is acknowleging that we have missed the mark. Jesus, by His self sacrifice, then covers the payment for our sin, when we acknowlege Him. Not only did His sacrifice bring forgiveness, but it also wipes away all the unrighteous transgressions also.

Now, He gives us the choice to not believe His story of redemption; thus calling Him a liar by refusing His testimony…yes, you can stay off target if you want…I would not recommend that path.

Blessings,
