Song #14 - "A New Commandment" (John13)

After reading Pastor Steve’s “Secret Place” blog on Jubileechurch.org, I had to write about this song I recorded on my first CD; “Words of Life.” Love one another must become the sound track of our lives individually and corporately.

Lyrics:

A new commandment I give to you,

love one another as I’ve loved you.

That’s how they will know that you follow Me

if you show My love, then My love they’ll see.

I believe…His Word, it is true

The redeemed must say so…

I believe…

that the just live by faith

I believe…

The Lord’s joy is my strength

I believe…

God and me can do all things.

There is no doubt that the divisions in the world are stark; in fact, Jesus said it would be this way; brother against brother, mother against daughter…it is an symptom of the end of days. This is precisely why love stands out so brilliantly.

When someone chooses love and forgiveness while everyone around him is choosing blame and hate, it is impossible not to notice the contrast.

Pastor Steve said it best, “we love by the experience of being loved by God.” The apostle John said, “God is Love, and he that dwells in love dwells in God, and God in him.”

Dwelling in love, dwelling in God(who IS love), is it possible in today’s worldly mindset? No…

No? No!

If we could do it on our own, don’t you think we’d see a lot more love around? No, love must be conceived in us by a Holy Spirit transaction. I give Him my heart of stone, and He gives me a clean heart, capable of love. He also throws in some sweeteners like a transformed mind, a future and a hope, renewed strength, just to name a few. It’s a pretty good deal for folks like me and you.

So, when He commands us to “love one another”, He also supplies the love…how cool is that?

Blessings,

Wes
