Song #13: “Seek Ye First” (Matthew 6)
Listen: wesmichaelgorospe.com/songs; it is the 9th song on my “Words of Life” CD.
Lyrics:Don’t you worry ‘bout the life that you’ll lead
don’t worry ‘bout the food that you’ll eat
take a look at the birds as they fly through the air
they have all that they need in the Father’s care…
Seek ye first the Kingdom of God
make sure you seek His Righteousness
and all these things shall be added unto you
If the flowers can dress like a king
without sewing, or doing a thing
why should you worry ‘bout what you should wear
put your life in His hands, in the Father’s care
No man can serve two masters
a two minded man won’t stand
it’s your choice:
to live in the kingdom of God
or perish with the kingdom of man…
I got up this morning at 4am, my mind racing with anxiety. I was being tormented by fear…fear of not being able to control my future as I head into a new phase of life, retirement. As I sat on the edge of the bed and slowly took back control of my thoughts, I remembered how faithful the Lord has been to provide all that we needed over these 48 years of walking with Him. This scripture came to mind, “I have been young, and now I’m older, yet I have never seen the righteous forsaken, nor His seed begging bread.” There are so many promises in the Bible to remember, stand on, and receive comfort from. The funny thing is that I have even written songs from many of these promises, including “Seek ye First.”
So, if I, who has experienced God’s faithfulness to His promises, am anxious, how many more people in this world are being tormented by fear of _____ whatever?
This is the very reason why I wrote and recorded these songs, so that when we find ourselves in over our heads in fear and doubt, we might remember His faithfulness to His promises…and sometimes a melody will help us remember.
Seek Him first, put Him first, let Him take the lead, be a follower of Christ. He knows the way into the future because He has already been there and seen it, AND, He IS the Way.
Well, I don’t feel anxious anymore, just thankful to know Him who has promised “to keep that which I have committed to Him.”
Blessings,
