Song #25 "New Creation" (2 Corinthians 5:17,21)

Song #25: “New Creation” (2 Corinthians 5:17,21)

The Easter season is more than the resurrection, although that’s huge; it’s also a time for redemption, renewal, rededication, and rejoicing.

“New Creation” celebrates much of this in a calm, thoughtful way.

Lyrics: I will worship You my God, I will worship You alone

I will lift up the name of Jesus.

It’s to You my praise I bring, Lord of glory

Mighty God, I worship You… Ooooooooo…

He made Him who knew no sin to become sin for us

That we might become the righteousness of God in Him.

So if anyone is in Christ, you are a new creation

the old things have passed away

and all things have become new.

He died for all, so we who live should not live for ourselves

But for Him, who died for us and conquered death.

It’s to You my praise I bring, Lord of glory

Mighty God, I worship You…

I wrote the introduction, “I will worship You…” many years ago, and this song was the perfect opportunity to use the lyrics. Worship is the perfect lead-in to understanding what Jesus really did for us on resurrection day. The fact that He died for us and rose from the dead is one enormous thing; but that He took all of our sin, past, present, and future, upon Himself is incredible…but God didn’t stop there, He cleaned up our junk first, then He declared that we are “the righteousness of God in Him.” Can He do that; take dirt and make diamonds? Of course He can, and He did…He’s Almighty God…!!!

The operative phrase is “in Him.” In Christ, we are a new creation; not refurbished, NEW.

He does have some expectations of us. With this new life, He would like us to “NOT live for ourselves, but for Him.” How could we not? But He doesn’t even force us to do that; He suggests that we make that choice…our free will to choose is a big deal to Him…hence the worship. His goodness and kindness is so overwhelming, worship is the natural response of an honest heart.

Happy resurrection season to all you redeemed, forgiven, newly created worshipers…let’s all rejoice, I mean really REJOICE…!!!

Wes
